Empowering Those with Dyslexia

My Dyslexia Journey
When I was five years old, I was diagnosed with dyslexia, and from there on, I have been on a fantastic journey, overcoming obstacles I never thought I could and finding out what my dyslexic superpowers are! My parents noticed when I was in kindergarten that I was struggling to learn how to read. They consulted my teachers, and they let my parents know that “She will never rise above being a C or D student because of her dyslexia, it’s her disadvantage.” My parents quickly took me out of that environment and enrolled me at The Schenck School, a special school for dyslexic children. This school was truly incredible, taking a different approach to learning as opposed to a brick-and-mortar school. Eventually, we found that homeschooling was the best option for me, and now a virtual high school. Now, I am a straight-A student, at the top of my class, and even a published author.
During my dyslexia journey, I found a love for the arts. I felt it was an outlet to express and cope with the feeling of being “different.” I have adored being on stage ever since, performing at the Broadway Artist Alliance in New York, the Juilliard School, Belmont University, and many competitions.
Now, looking back at all I have overcome, I realize that everything was worth it. All the sleepless nights asking, “Why me Why can’t I be like the other kids?” I am proud to say that my dyslexia has made me into the young woman I am today, and it is genuinely my greatest superpower.
